Care for Psoriasis-Prone Skin

Skin prone to psoriasis can feel dry, tight, flaky and itchy, and it often needs a different approach than everyday dry skin. Our sister brand, Psoriasis Honey, pairs an OTC active ingredient with the honey-and-botanical base our customers know from Eczema Honey.

Psoriasis is a medical condition. This page is general skincare information, not medical advice. Please work with your dermatologist on a care plan, and ask them before adding a new product, especially if you use prescription medicines.

Psoriasis Honey Skin-Renewing Cream

The Psoriasis Honey Skin-Renewing Cream contains 1.8% salicylic acid, an ingredient permitted for OTC psoriasis products under FDA's monograph (21 CFR 358, Subpart H, which covers salicylic acid at 1.8% to 3%). Salicylic acid helps loosen and soften the look of scale. The base is grapeseed oil, honey, aloe vera juice, beeswax and sunflower seed oil.

Build a simple routine

  1. Cleanse gently with lukewarm water and a mild cleanser. For the scalp, try the Psoriasis Honey Renewing Shampoo with oat extract, aloe and argan oil.
  2. Apply the Skin-Renewing Cream in a thin layer to the areas you are caring for, as the label directs.
  3. Add moisture. The lightweight Nourishing Skin Serum (grapeseed, jojoba, cucumber seed and marula oils) can be used on skin or scalp. Fragrance-free body care like our Oatmeal Body Lotion works well on surrounding dry skin.

Eczema-prone or psoriasis-prone?

The two can look alike, and only a clinician can tell you which you have. Our article Eczema vs. Psoriasis: What's the Difference? covers the basics. In general, our colloidal oatmeal creams (Original and Nut-Free) are made for dry, itchy-feeling, eczema-prone skin, while the Psoriasis Honey cream uses salicylic acid for psoriasis-prone skin.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use salicylic acid with my prescription?

Ask your dermatologist first. Salicylic acid can change how other topical products are absorbed and may irritate some skin.

Can I use it on my face or on children?

Follow the Drug Facts directions on the label and avoid the eyes. For children, or for use on the face or skin folds, ask your doctor first.

Will it sting?

Some people feel mild tingling with salicylic acid. Patch test first and stop use if irritation develops. Do not apply to broken or inflamed skin without your doctor's advice.

How long until I notice a difference?

It varies from person to person. Use it consistently as the label directs, and check in with your dermatologist if your skin gets worse or you have concerns.
